After getting skunked at Mill Pond I decided to head north to Crescent Lake. I had fished this lake lots when growing up and have caught a few good ones from a boat. The lake was rehabilitated a few years ago because of illegal perch dumps. (DON'T DUMP FISH!) The lake is also well fished because of easy access and it produces good activity. The lake is also very deep, even just a little ways from shore, I wish there was a topo map for it. Upon coming into the lake I noticed the road is blocked about half way in by some big rocks. The campground is now closed, I still haven't had a chance to find out why. This also means the boat launch, if you could call it one, is also closed. You can still easily launch smaller boats from the shore near the tree at the road block. There was some random surface activity and again I wasn't able to get a good reach from shore with the fly rod. There was one (or more?) particular fish that was toping rather noisily with a good popping sound, not the splash I'm accustomed to hearing. I started with using worms with Mike's Glow Marshmallows ( lt green garlic). Nothing. I added a bobber. Nothing. Some other people showed up farther down shore. I took the bobber off. Nothing. I was about to go home and started reeling slowly in. I happened to stop reeling and then felt a tug so I set the hook. It was a 8" rainbow. I would have released it cept I happened to hook the eye. As I removed the hook the eye came completely out of the socket. He wasn't going to survive so I gave the fish to an old guy that was fishing down from me. He told me the fishing gets slow after the first week of cooler weather. Another guy I talked to earlier said they had hit the night before on orange powerbait and also on rooster tails. I took some photos and will be submitting a feature for this lake as soon as I get the pictures developed. For those interested the road the Y's to the right when you go to drive into this lake, the one that leads to the Boundary Dam vista point is closed
