My family tried Burke Lake again this afternoon with minimal success. The breezy weather and overcast conditions kept the crowds down and may have affected the fishing. None of the dozen bank anglers I checked with had any fish, and we didn't get any strikes in the two hours or so we tried soaking powerbait in the 47 degree waters of the lake.
Of the two boat loads of anglers I spoke with, one of them did have success. Charlie Sorrell of Federal Way, fishing with his son Jacob and another man, boated six nice Rainbow Trout in a day of fishing using Powerbait.
While the size of the fish from Burke Lake have been very impressive so far this year, the numbers haven't materialized yet for most anglers. With the continued warming weather, perhaps this will change in the next few weeks.
