We fished for yellow perch, starting at Coleman point and then moving up to the tip of Mercer Island. We fished in about 18 to 21 feet, just outside the weed beds. We used a 1/4 oz terminal weight with 2 droppers above that. Light leaders and #6 or 8 hooks were used. We caught the first one on worms and then switched to perch belly. The fish ranged up to about 11" or a foot max, and were schooled. The schools circled around and as soon as we got a little shallower than 18' or deeper than 20 we lost contact. In an afternoon we must have caught 50 or 60 of them, we lost count. At days end we filleted them and each wound up with about 5 LB of fillets. They are wonderful on the table. Now I'm wondering if anyone out there fishes for them in the winter and if so, where and how. It is classic, entertaining, satisfying, pan fishing of the first order. And, the numbers of fish are unlimited. If anyone else is fishing for them in L. WA I would love to communicate with you!
. Thanks, Jack.
