Decided to try North Lake for the first time after visiting my mother on the Key Peninsula. Put in around 3-4:00 pm and went until around 7:00. Found the last of my "Italian" woolly buggers, much to my surprise, and tied it on my type IV full sinking line. Began trolling counter-clockwise around the lake but got no further than the lily pads when I got a good hit. Instead of continuing along, I circled back and gave it another try. I then got another hit that kept. A very, very feisty rainbow that thrashed hard with every aerial. Probably around 12". Well, so feisty that it threw the hook. It seemed that after 15 minutes of trolling, I would get another hit, but no guarantee of a hook up. After another hour, I got another hook up. This one I nearly boated, but it threw the hook when I eased up too much. After another hour or so, I finally managed to tire out the fish enough to bring it to my net. Again, a nice 12-incher. After the three or four hours spent, it would seem that a slower but brisk troll would bring out the hits. Next time, I plan on working the deepest sections in the basin directly out from the boat launch. There are supposed to be triploids there, but I didn't see anyone else getting them either. Tight Lines!
