Drove over to Lake Jameson from the Seattle area on Friday evening (5/21)with my father and 11 year old son. Pitched a tent at the campground overlooking the lake, and rented a boat for $20 at Jack's resort. Started fishing at 7am on a beautiful, sunny Saturday morning, and within minutes my son boated the first fish, a nice 11 inch rainbow. The bite didn't continue at that pace, but all three of us managed to get our 5 fish limits (mostly 10 -12 inches) by 1:30pm that afternoon. We fished mostly off a small island near the resort, and caught our limits by using lime green powerbait, though we heard people say that powerbait color doesn't really matter. After catching our limits, we took a boat ride to the far north end of the lake, and saw some nice scenery near the horse farm. Definitely enjoyed the 80 degree day!
On Sunday, we really hadn't planned on fishing, but we decided to give it a shot off the shore below the modular home at about 8:15 in the morning. My father caught the first fish, a nice 16 inch rainbow, followed shortly by my son's 12 incher. Due to our success, and the steady action of those around us, we ended up staying until about 10:45am. All three of us caught 2 fish each, though we had numerous other solid strikes we were unable to bring in. As we were driving out of the campground area, we saw several people on shore reeling in fish. All in all, it was an exceptional weekend that featured great fishing, weather, and father-son-grandpa camaraderie.
A few closing thoughts: If your fishing time is limited, and you are looking for a top notch trout fishing experience, Lake Jameson is a must visit destination. We've visited this lake several times over the years, and have never failed to be impressed with the the nice quality of fish we've brought home. One warning: if you plan to come during the month of May or June, bring your sunscreen!! Jameson offers lots of fish, but also a great deal of heat with little in the way of shade. Heat aside, in our eyes, Lake Jameson definitely lived up to it's reputation as one of Washington state's best trout fishing lakes. Already looking forward to making another trip!
