I had coho fishing on the mind and was thinking of heading to the Puyallup river. One of my buddies gave me a text at 9am and invited me to go fish on his boat out of Redondo. He had a half day of work and we met at the launch at 1pm. There was 2 other truck/trailers in the parking lot(no one was out fishing). Absolutely beautiful fall day to be fishing. Flat calm, sunny with a cool breeze. The tide was high and not moving much between tide changes. Most of times in the afternoon around Redondo there is a lot of seaweed/eel grass and junk in the water. Found a good stretch of clean water between Redondo and Dumas bay. Trolling a Ace High fly(green glow) with double hook and herring bait strip. Other rod was whole herring in a head holder(double hook, with one hook in bait up top on lateral line and bottom hook trailing free). Trolled for about an hour releasing some sub-legals(shakers). Had a taker on my rod,but got off half way in. Kept being persistent in the area(were a couple boats in the vicinity, but gave up and moved). We stayed and I took pictures to not be focused on my rod constantly. Look out,bam "Fish On"! Standard 3-4lb coho with sea lice and chubby for the length/size( unclipped fish.Wild?). We kept trolling for a good hour or two releasing some sub-legals. My buddy was thinking of heading towards Dash Pt. I said we should stick with the clean water heading towards Redondo. We did that and what do you know. Bam,fish on the whole herring! The two fish we got were exactly the same size buck coho. Seen about 6-8 boats kept trolling the area, but gave up and went deeper or left the area. My fish I caught was 57ft on the downrigger. My buddy had a cannonball weight(think around a 16oz) trolling around 40ft. There are still some coho around,so don't give up this weekend. Bait strips on hoochies/ace high flys/head holders. Had a frozen pack of medium sized herring putting in saltwater/rock salt and try to keep cold when brining them while fishing (if only I had some fresh bait,oh well). Couldn't ask for a better day in October to fish!Goog Luck!! Definitely enjoy seeing everyone give a report....From perch, walleye, bass, trout, salmon, burbot, crappie, squid, flounder, rock fish, halibut, crab, lingcod, clams shrimp and whatever I missed..Send those pics!

Glad to give one. Seen your reports. Too bad both our coho weren't the size of the one you posted awhile back. Have always thought of using squid strips, but never have. Something I need to try using. Thanks! Good luck!
