Headed out to American Lake to troll for some trout. Thought I'd be able to catch one or two decent fish before the barometer dropped. Got to the launch at 2:30pm and started to troll around 3:00. Had nice sunny weather with a little wind in spots. Put my gear out when I was in 30ft of water. Started heading toward Silcox Island looking to troll in 40-60ft of water. As I was trolling and watching the fishfinder a couple fish marked close to bottom next to a school of bait(or so I thought it was bait or small fish). Looked down to fumble with something then looked at the fishfinder again. The bottom had all the sudden went from 50ft to 25ft. Went to grab my rod to real in to avoid dragging the tops of weeds. Then immediately realized it was a really big school of perch marking as the bottom. Made a couple half loops in the area around Silcox Island. Made another half loop and picked up a nice 14 inch rainbow trout. Caught it using pop-gear(RoosterTrolls) with 6 lb/22 inch leader to a $2.00 cheap bin hard plastic minnow lure. Using a half ounce weight on the rudder. Probably had around 80-100 ft out of line. Had trolled for about 45 minutes and could see the edge of the storm front coming from the south. Was still sunny, but the wind temp was dropping. Knew the bite would shut down more and more towards the evening. Trolled in the area around Silcox Island and made a pass by where Bill"s boathouse use to be,but no biters. Trolled back to the ramp and called it good. Got to the ramp and started to blow about 20-25mph and raining. Soon as I loaded everything the wind, rain had stopped and could see the sunset through the clouds. Should be some better action once the weather changes.
