First off. The launch at the state park is terrible because of the low water level. You can only launch from the north side of the main launch. The water is only 1.5 feet deep heading out into the lake. I took Mike with me and we trolled our hearts out. I gave the day a 5 not because of the number of eyes we caught but because we caught about 90 fish total. We couldn't keep the bullheads off of our spinners. Between the two of us we caught over 50. We caught over 20 eyes and cleaned 10. We also caught over a dozen large/smallmouth bass and half a dozen bluegills. Plus 1 crappie. Mike caught a bluegill the size of a dinner plate. Almost all of our fish were caught in less than 10 FOW. Crazy how shallow they all were. The eyes were spitting up 2 inch crappie.

Yea, we were there 1 week before you and Id agree about the launch at state park. Sad the water level was so low. We left boat home since need 4' of water at ramp to get boat back on trailer easy.

I believe they are keeping the water level really low so they can rebuild the DFW ramp over by O'Sullivan Dam. There is a large amount of water coming out of the dam so it makes sense that they are purposely keeping it low.

Hey Mark it's the "Gator", nice mixed bag catch, those bluegills are "huge"! Did you have a chance at trolling crab creek channel? It sounds like you had lot's of action, did you happen to bobber fish for crappie and bluegills? Or trolling was the answer? Did you try trolling any small shadrap type plugs? Appreciate some info?
TIGHT LINES AND KEEP REELIN!!! :)

Hey Gator. I trolled the humps that are along the west side of Crab creek but had no real luck. I tried trolling deep but had no luck, the fish were all very shallow. There is an algae bloom going on which means the water visibility is about a foot which points to why the fish were shallow even mid-day. I did not try trolling plugs because I was so shallow. We had another boat comment that they had no luck trolling plugs. We caught all of our bluegills, bass and crappie trolling spinners. We missed as many bites as we caught fish. I had a lot of light bites that I missed that I am sure were bluegills based on the way they hit. I normally catch a lot more bluegills trolling than we did yesterday. If you are planning on going maybe use the Mardon launch, it may be deeper. I did try a dropshot first thing in the morning on a hump I really like but after catching 11 bullheads with my line hanging over the side of the boat I decided to go trolling. My trolling speed was 1.0 and we were using 1 oz bottom bouncers and 1/2 oz banana weights in the shallow water. We definitely had better luck when we switched to the very light weights. Troll the face of the dunes.

Try shallow 5 to 6 feet. Face of the dunes near Crab creek. Use as light of weight as you have.
