Went to the river with the goal of catching my first humpy on the fly, and my first freshwater coho. Accomplished neither unfortunately. I saw one coho brought to the parking lot. The humpys were disinterested in my fly and i left them alone as the majority of the humpys were spawning. While fishing coho with a soft bead, I have become convinced that soft bead fishing is cheating. Within ten seconds of each cast, I pulled a rainbow, two whitefish, and a humpy with a purelt massive hump. Most people seemed to have terrible luck with coho, and it's an absolute shame we are going another year without a real coho opportunity. Other than the duwamish the northern and central puget sound area really doesn't have many rivers to catch salmon at. We lost the stilly this year too.

I noticed some fishermen had no idea how to release big hump humpys. Saw two pinks just left in the shallow water wallowing miserably on their sides. Hold the fish upright, and let it go when it wants to. I had to revive someone else's fish, and explain proper release technique to him
