Met my brother at the Keystone launch at 7:30 with the Hobies. My plan was to troll around and if I saw surfacing fish, pull that line up, grab the casting rod and cast at the jumpers. Not even a bump trolling, but 3 casts resulted in my 2 fish.

From the launch we headed south. Perfect calm water for kayaking. For the first fish as I was trolling, I saw a group rolling close to shore. I pulled up the trolling gear and grabbed the casting rod. I followed the fish and waited to cast until the pod was clear of any of the folks on the beach so I wouldn't be in their way. First cast, fish on. Unfortunately I made 2 dumb mistakes. First I didn't get the trolling rod and gear out of my way, so of course, the fish headed that direction and I got my line wrapped up in the trolling rod gear. 2nd mistake is for some reason I left the downrigger deployed, so the fish also found that. Since I was at Keystone, I figured I must have been channeling my inner Keystone Cops. No idea how that fish stayed on.

2nd fish came when I got father south past all of the beach angler. Saw another group of fish ahead of me. This time I learned my lesson from the first fish and got everything up and cleared out of the way. 2nd cast hooked into a nice 24 inch male. After taking me for a short ride, I netted it to finish my limit.

I think if I had just peddled around looking for fish and casted 2 them, I probably could have caught and released about as many as I wanted. As I was heading back to the dock, my brother was following me still trolling and hooked into a large fish. I could see his rod was buried. Circled back and watched him unfortunately land a nice King, about 3 weeks to late to keep it. He was able to quickly unpin it and release it safely.
