First cast at about 10:30. Went all the way up to the NW corner of the lake. There's a spot there that usually holds fish if it's hot out but it is a bit early in the season for it normally. Got there and didnt see anything on sonar. Started going shallower.
Got a follow from a decent looking SMB on a swimbait in about 4' of water. Other than that, didnt see any other activity, so I started my way down the lake.
It was pretty windy on the lake. I had the wind to my back on the way up, but now working my way down, was quite the struggle.
Took almost an hr until I hooked up on the first fish of the day. Not a bad start with it being a 2.44# SMB on dropshot.
Got my baits stolen a bunch of times but small fish. Next catch was a dink LMB. I lost what felt like a decent fish a couple of seconds after hooking up.
Just about done and was fishing a point.
I hear little splashing to my right. See little fingerlings jumping out of the water. Then I see what I assume is a SMB chasing right behind them near the surface of the water. Looked like a torpedo with the wake right above it. Then I see a 2nd one right behind it doing the same thing. They were in probably in the 2# range. Only lasted for about 10 seconds and they disappeared completely. I started throwing the jerkbait in the area but only had some perch follow.
Never seen it with my own eyes before. Very cool. Done by 12:30PM. Having a fishing partner changes my time on the water.
