In search of kokanee...

After speaking with fisheries biologist Mike S. I decided it would be worth giving Billy Clapp another try. Mike informed me that almost 400,000 kokanee have been planted there the past three years, meaning the reservoir isn't relying on wash down kokanee from Banks Lake.

My wife JoAnn and I are here for the weekend and what a beautiful weekend it is! We started this morning at the Rock Island and had one bite but no hook up. I saw some marks but not a ton so after lunch we ran up to the north by the power line and there I saw a lot of marks, so that's where we will start tomorrow. If you are on the lake us a shoot!

We did catch one beautiful 16" rainbow that I swore was a kokanee until I got to to the net. Billy Clapp has some beautiful rainbow and they are good eating!

Nice fish, Mike! wish I knew You were there! I would have tried to stop by! Fishing on the surface? We fished there a week ago and caught one 14 + . There were lots of swallows and the fish was full of larvae. Bites were minimal. I eagerly await Your report for today, Sunday! Please, a little more detail! Good luck, good catching!

The bio you spoke with and the stocking reports don't agree. Stocking report says 200K planted in 2019 and nothing since. Seems they've given up. Sad.

those numbers don't add up. What I was told is if there are additional fish available the bio has discretion to plant the extra fish where-ever. I don't believe they get added to the planting list. That would be my guess anyway

When Walmart can post weekend sales figures on Monday you'd think that WDFW could at least figure our how to post stocking data for a year. Doesn't need to be precise. Howsabout +/- 100K! After all it is WDFW - can't expect much - oh, thats what we get. And as for stocking "where-ever", thats just a way to empty the truck. No consideration to water temp diffs etc. that affect fingerling survival. No wonder BC kokes are few and far between.
