My son and I started fishing at 8:30 and quit at 12:30. With the breeze it was cold most of the day but the sun did help as it was sunny. Tried to keep it on us until the fish started to bite.

The water temperature was close to 50. Biting speed was 1.0 to 1.1mpg. Later the wind came up and made it harder to keep it at that specific speed.

I got the first one at 20 Feet on downrigger. Then another and several more bites before my son got one. He tried 20 feet then changed to a green lure. He finally got one. Of course, it was bigger than mine. About 11am the bite died and he started chasing marks on the fishfinder. They were on the bottom (50-35 feet). He would let the downrigger ball down for a minute then bring it up a bit. The fish would bite. He was successful doing this. Me, not so much.

One time we even had a double of which we both lost. We spent most of the time by the north “pay” launch.
We used Dick Nite Dodgers with homemade lures. We both used pieces of nightcrawlers, I used shoepeg corn and my son used green Berkley maggots.

It was a great way to start the 2021 fishing season.

Thanks Toni. Hoping that the kokanee will turn on there once the planter trout get caught. It's been several years since we had a good kokanee season at American, maybe this will be the year!
