My friend, Keith Kellogg, and I are on a business trip to Spokane this week. We got off work a little early today and decided to explore Newman Lake, NE of Spokane. We got there around 5 PM and fished for close to two hours from shore at the south end of the lake. It was about 68 degrees with no wind blowing.

We found that the south end of the lake was shallow, best fished from a boat, but we still had some success. Mine was of a minimal nature, with me landing a whopping four-inch largemouth bass. Some nearby Russian immigrants were doing pretty well catching over a half a dozen crappie with bobbers and small jigs. Boat fishermen were nearby catching a few crappie and bass too.

Oh, did I forget to mention my friend Keith? He caught three rainbow trout on a red and silver Blue Fox spinner. The first was about 8 inches long. The next one was a monster that I thought was a bass coming out of the water. It was only about 15 inches long but weighed about two pounds. The next cast brought his little brother to shore, about 14 inches long and a pound and a half. Nothing after that, but what a way to spend an early evening!
