Fished Rufus Friday Saturday. Friday was nasty 35° and sleet. Bagged it after a couple hours without any good biters. Took a nap and got back out for magic hour and some night fishing. Still nasty rain with a 10mph breeze to really make it feel extra nice but the walleye were on the chew once the sun went down. Went 7/8 one came off at the boat during a double. Let a fat 25” baby maker go for reproduction sakes. Next day Saturday was beautiful weather wise but the walleye were not as receptive after the front passed. Caught on dragging a harness in 45 feet. Hit one nice slimer and one more walleye at night. All in all not a bad weekend. Side note~if you’ve been on the fence about those $12 a stick custom cranks do yourself a favor and pick a few up. They got it done. Hit up Matt at verticaljigsandlures.com.

Thanks for the report baldginger. Those are good lookin cranks. Any particular speed and color work better than another?

All fish caught trolling upstream .8 - 1.2. And we caught them on multiple colors. 4 or 5 different baits. Run a planer board. They work

I use 15# braid with 10 foot piece of mono or flouro leader on my trolling rods. The length behind the planer board varies with dive depth of lure and depth of water. That said I like at least 100’ for deep divers when fishing in 20 feet of water. In the pitch black if the board is up shallow you can get away with 50 foot setbacks. I use an inline planer board called a sidewinder that has a very small profile and doesn’t cause a ton of surface disturbance. Its all about trial and error. The experiment must continue
