Trolled today at the south east end of Lake Sammamish today and near the weather buoy. Started at about 10:30am and left at 1:30pm Flat line with weighted dropper rig, ranging from about 1/2 oz to 3 oz, to check various depths. Typical speed about 1.2-1.5 mph, but hard to say exactly due to lack of speedometer on an inflatable raft. Got one bite shortly after leaving the boat ramp, which felt like a decent sized trout, but it threw the hooks when it got close to the boat. The lure was a wedding ring with orange and yellow stack beads, yellow Indiana blade, tandem red Gamakatsu split shot hooks, tipped with a piece of nightcrawler. Usually the tandem split shot hooks are pretty good at keeping fish, but this feisty creature shook them loose. Depth was about 30 feet approximately. After we lost this fish, it was quiet for at least an hour. We also tried other types of spinners and a wiggle hoochie, but these didn't produce anything for us this time.
Most of the fish on the Deeper portable fish finder were showing about 40-50 feet deep, so we started using heavier weights, which started to produce a bite again. This time, they hit my kid's rod, which was also running a wedding ring lure, but with pink and yellow stack beads and pink Indiana blade. She's still a bit young and needs help reeling in fish, but with some help from my wife, we brought in a lean 13" cutthroat trout. It was bright silver, so I was worried we got a kokanee by accident, but the tail spots and a faint pink slash under the gills assured us it was a cutthroat trout.
It was almost time to go home, but when circling back, we got one more hit on the pink and yellow wedding ring. It felt big, but unfortunately, it threw the hooks almost immediately. So the total for the day was one landed fish, and two that got away. Would have liked a little faster paced fishing, but still a fun morning out on the lake with the family. Might try to bring a couple jigs and drop shot setups next time to get some yellow perch if the trout bite isn't hot.
