10/1/2020 11:10:13 AMMuch of the Duamish is like that. Takes some time and energy to learn where to go and where not to go. Tide timing plays a critical role in this. There are many places around CM park that do not require walking in the mud. Keep trying and do some exploring at low tide. You'll find many access points. Some you need waders and others you don't.

10/1/2020 1:44:52 PMI saw some guys on the CM side of the river standing on what looked like very solid ground, but I just couldn't find the trail they used to access it. Next time I am also gonna leave the cooler behind because it is just too much work to lug around. Any tips on figuring out what the quicksandy mud is before I step in it?

10/1/2020 5:55:32 PMUnfotunately, if it looks like mud, it probably is, but even the sand can be deceptive. There are some areas I fish that have ground water trickling in from the bank. You can't tell to look at it, but you'll from solid footing to soft mud/sand really fast. Definitely leave the cooler behind. Too much bulk. Look for rocky embankments or clear well used trails where others have identified the solid footing. You can easily fish around the foot bridge on the rocks safely and at low tide you can cross out to the big rock outcropping below the bridge there. OR drive upriver and look for other spots. Plenty between there and 405.
