Made our final salmon trip to the westside on Saturday morning. Launched the boat out of Port Orchard, slipped around the south end of Bainbridge Island, and joined the flotilla that was trolling just west of Shilshole Bay. We began trolling a little south of the main group, just north of West Point.

We started with a 3.3" green/black-scales OG2 trolled behind a size 0 Dipsy Diver on one rod and a 2.8" OG2 in fluoro-green/chartreuse behind a 10" Big Al's Fish Flash on a downrigger. The dipsy diver tracks around 30 feet, the downrigger was set at 100 feet of cable. But, we were moving fairly fast (better than 45 degrees angle in the cable). About 30 minutes in to our northerly path, we had a solid take-down on the downrigger rod. Netted a nice male coho.

The dipsy diver (which had been very effective 2 weeks earlier in Sekiu) was quiet. But, another 30 minutes in and we had our second takedown on the downrigger. Netted another nice coho that was full of eggs.

Not long after this, the wind picked up. We decided to call it a morning and headed back to Port Orchard. Made for a great conclusion to the 2020 summer salmon-season. (Already looking forward to Blackmouth!)

Hey "oldgoat" It's the "Gator", does that Big Al's fish flash have a little light that blinks green in the middle of the flasher, is that something new they just came out with?? If so where did you purchase the flasher?

Gator: I purchase the LEDs separately and attach them to the Big Als. (These are Pro Troll strike-lites. You can purchase in bulk from Amazon or other vendors. The only downside is the 3M adhesive on the back of each light.: It's been less than reliable, so, I use super glue to be certain the lights remain attached.)

Donn, we missed you, fished the Shilshole area as well. Windy was the word!

Yep. It did get a tad breezy out there...
