This report is for Saturday and Sunday fishing Area 10 for resident coho. It was my wife JoAnn and I each day, and Saturday my son James joined us.
There are reports…there are pictures… and in my head there were visions of a full cooler and lots of coho to process. The reality was different.
We launched each day out of the Edmonds Marina and started trolling some to the oil docks. On Saturday James got an immediate “fish on” on the center rod, running a Deep 6 diver, flasher and the new Old Goat double spinner, rigged with heavier line and 4/0 hooks. Depth was 90 feet on the line so around 45 feet. James brought him easily to the net and we “thought” it was the start of a cooler filling weekend – not!
The rest of the day and all Sunday morning were spent in a futile quest to finding biting resident coho. Note the key word, biting. We saw plenty of fish on the fish finder but nothing was interested in our offers. I went through a steady rotation of my tackle box trying to find something the fish would find enticing.
We hit a multitude of Area 10 spots – The Oil Docks, Jefferson Head, Madison Bay, Appletree Point, close in, far out. It mattered not.
I know guys were catching fish, but this weekend it was our turn for the big skunk-olla. Except for James beauty, that is. In any case, we got two days of being on the water and that isn’t bad at all. Plus, the boat got a good cleaning when we got home on Sunday!
