SHAD - Took my catching buddy out for a few hours to get some shad because it makes GREAT crab bait. Counts over McNary were looking pretty solid so we anchored up below bridge in about 16 feet of water and set our lines. Favorite setup for water this depth is Dick Nite spoon trolled behind a magnum Wiggle Wart. Most people say color does not matter but I know better. Chrome with either hot pink, fluorescent red, or chartreuse. Got our lines in just after 5 p.m. We hit fish immediately and the bite was rather steady until about 7 when it normally shuts off. As far as shad catching goes, this was actually rather slow but we did put 18 fish in the cooler. The next two weeks will be progressively thick with shad. If you want to take kids on a really fun adventure, take them shad fishing soon.
