Wow what a beautiful day today. 2nd trip out this year but really my first real fishing for the year.
Didn't get onto the water until about 1030AM and there's a lot more rigs than I normally see. The entire 1st row is full with 2nd row maybe 2/3 full. I guess the reports of boat sales booming must be true.
Wasn't quite sure what to use but I notice water temp is 64-65 degrees. There's cotton floating everywhere. A nice breeze, so it was really hard to see into the water. Figure I'll start with a swimbait.
Didn't take long until I got a strike from the docks. Nothing on the left, nothing underneath, but running it from the right caught their attention and they would strike. Caught 3 like this.
Also caught 1 on a dropshot and 1 on a jerkbait.
All bass were under 2 pounds. I weighed the 1st bass of the year, and it was 1.98#. All the rest were the same size, maybe a tiny bit bigger and bit smaller. Wasn't enough difference to bother weighing anything else.
It was frustrating with the cotton though. I was constantly picking it off my line and eyelets. It also caused a backlash on one of my reels so bad, I'm going to have to cut the entire spool and put on new line. I don't think I've had to do that since I started using a baitcaster, lol.
But man it was nice to be out there. I spoke to a guy that caught a 21" SMB today. He was fly fishing for them. Must have been a high 4's to maybe low 5's.
I don't know how long this half eaten baitfish was laying in my boat. Found it as I was putting this away. It was starting to dry up sitting in the sun. It must have came from one of the fish I caught, but I have no idea how it got to that spot though. All my fish were landed at the back of the boat. That spot is 4-5' away. I didn't see anything fly out of a fish's mouth lol. Don't know how I could have missed it.
