First trip out since it's re-opened. Great to be able to fish again! I got a little later start than I should have knowing the Stevens bite usually shuts off quickly once the sun hits the water, and this was the best day of the year, 84 degrees when I left. I met a bunch of other kayakers and launched from Wyatt (now Davies) park at around 5:30am. Within minutes of getting my lines in the water, fish on. It stayed consistent until sometime between 6:30 - 7:00 when the sun started hitting the surface. The fish went a bit lockjaw and started heading deep.

Early morning fish could be had 20 feet down and up to the surface. Once the sun hit the water, it was 35 feet and deeper, mainly deeper. I know folks out there that were finding fish at 60 feet, I got most of mine at the end at 50 feet. Not used to fish going that deep on Stevens this time of year.

I wound up with 9, just could not get my last one in, though admittedly I gave up due to the sun and heat (I was getting seriously sunburned) and the lake turning into a washtub as every wake boat within 100 square miles showed up early.

Used Elgin Fishing God's Tooth Spoons, both 50/50 patterns as well as a Fire Tiger pattern that was hot as the fish dropped in depth, and at the end used a chartreuse Reli Lures spinner to catch the last 2. 12 inch leaders on everything trailing a Dick Nite clown pattern dodger, and a Mack's Lures Sling Blade in moon jelly. 1.0 - 1.2 seemed to be the best speeds for me. Corn dyed orange and soaked in Pro Cure garlic bloody tuna oil.

Fantastic to be able to get out on the water again! Landing fish was the bonus to the morning.

Video shows the action from the morning.

Nice report. How crowded was it at the launch? Any issues when you were pulling out?
Thanks!

Thanks. Same experience on Sammamish. Feels like running the gauntlet when exiting and that was mid week.
