This is my first trip to the river since the flooding on the sixth and wow, has the river changed. I fished the Byrnes road stretch today. The whole system, Touchet and Walla Walla are still way to dirty to fish effectively. Every little side stream is still dumping in chocolate milk, and the amount of bank erosion and silt around is not helping. All the pools seems to be gone and it's just one run right now. My little "your not skunked today" spot for trout, an undercut bank about 20' long with a little back eddy at the bottom end is gone. There are fish in the system but I gave up after 90 minutes. I got a lunch and play date with grandson anyway, that's why I didn't head for the Tucannon. The upper banks are really tricky, a 1' deep mat of sticks is hiding what's underneath, so be careful. Hanna's article was right on about floods, I need to now find where the fish have relocated too. I included two before and after shots.
