After having such great success last week following the information found in this Lake Spokane fishing report, I couldn't resist getting my oldest son out for another trip before the weather gets too cold to bother.
We got to the launch around 8, and were to the fishing spot just off from Willow Bay by 8:15. Immediately we notice fish all around us swimming in the top 1" of water. It was strange, as if they were hypnotized or engaged in a ritual of some kind. I marked at least 5 locations where they were swimming in large 30 to 40 foot circles, one behind another, with equal spacing of about 2 feet.
I had left the boat rigged up from the last trip, expecting that I would get out so we ended up using the exact same gear, and getting the exact same results. We used a pink Kokanee Special from Apex behind a rainbow dodger, a pink generic hoochie behind a Mack's Lure Flash Lite Troll in pink with a chrome/purple dodger, and an Ace High XL pink Hoochie with dodger, all with and without worm, for similar success.
The XL hoochie was used as a long line, with 2oz of weight, let out 100' behind the boat, and was the most successful. The downriggers were set to about 10 feet, and picked up maybe a third of the fish we caught. We stopped using bait altogether at 9 fish so we could keep fishing, and release them until we caught something special.
After catching and releasing 5 or 6 more, all the same, healthy trout around 18", we decided to see if this area was special, or if we could just move downstream and find another spot closer to the launch that was similar. We did. I've marked it on the hot spot map. Technically we could have had our limit and been headed home by 9:45. The action was fast, and a few doubles were had. Not bad for an hour and a half.
Our bag weight was again around 17lbs for 10 fish. I think another fish fry is in our immediate future. Any excuse to see my kids will do. :)
For my daughter Alura.
