Fishing the Snake River with Snake Dancer Excursions is always a treat. Owner Gabe knows the river like the back of his hand and can practically call out the fish ahead of the cast. We met up with Gabe Friday evening for a weekend of Cast and Blast adventures, filming for the TV show. The cast part was for Chinook salmon, and we blasted for opening weekend Chukar. To say it was Epic is an understatement...
We fished Saturday and Sunday, getting into a comfortable routine of fishing crack of dawn, then mid-day hunting, then early afternoon another hour of casting, and ending the day at some chukar locations. Each day saw some nice cutting, quality chinook being caught, as well as jack salmon. We used roe and corkies, side drifting. Gabe's boat easily handles six anglers fishing, pretty nice and very comfortable.
It was my first time hunting chukar and I have to say it was great fun, and quite a workout. The draws we hunted required some billy-goat scrabbles which got me huffing and puffing, but the views were well worth it. We got multiple opportunities and I got my first chukar! Gabe mentioned recent rains had caused the birds to be higher up making it a challenging opening weekend. Even so, it was awesome, especially the first stop where we had ten chukar lined up waiting for us. Way cool!
THis is a trip you really should experience living in the Pacific Northwest. The scenery is beyond amazing. Give Gabe at Snake Dancer Excursions a call and get in on these cast and blast adventures while you can! 1-800-234-1941
