This is more FYI than fishing. Fished at Wallula along the railroad this morning. This is trespassing, and I shouldn't of been there. I met the UP Railroad Police today. He told me that if you walk across a railroad to fish you are breaking the law. I did not get a ticket, however they will be looking along all their rights of way, and will be issuing citations. I guess with the recent number of injuries and deaths this will be a point of emphasis. About a dozen of us left. Maybe the boat guy last week knew this and that was why he was casting at us. Could have said something. A gentleman in a boat anchored about 5' offshore said this is the best steelhead fishing along this stretch, but is actually boat access only. He was the one who called the police, to keep bank fishers safe and out of his spot.
Before that was fishing spoons along the shoreline. Lots of bass, no steelhead or salmon seen.

Sad. We used to fish that stretch when I was a kid. Back when they didn't make a big stink about crossing the tracks. Throw that rule in and much of our bank access across the state is cut off. We're experiencing it on the Skykomish river here on the west side too. I think cutting the public off from public land should be a criminal offense. Public land should have public access.

The guys in the boats are just poor fisherman or they would focus on fishing instead of what your doing, yes you should file an access grievance.

I was wondering if there might be a way to get approved access. I went by on my way to McNary Wednesday and there were 6 rigs fishing. It's been that way for so many years. There is also county land on the other side with no other access. As a land surveyor, now teacher, however I know the tangle of law has so many intricacies that don't agree with common sense reality that I didn't push it. Better to comply at the time. Besides I got a plan for learning the Walla Walla, Touchet and Tucannon this winter, if they don't close us out.
