Pot picking thieves, that is how I would describe crabbing in the birch point area. It should be an alert when you see guys wearing side arms that are launching to go crabbing. I’m not an anti gun tree hugger just a disappointed citizen. Disappointed in the fact that there are many who crab that pick other people’s pots. Kind of obvious when you pull your pots after soaking for the night and your bait bags are opened, baits gone and you have no crabs. The final insult came today when one of my pots was stolen. Don’t try and tell me that the tide drug it away, my floats where to small to float the pot off the bottom. For those of you that read this and partake in the practice of picking others pots..............you are low life scum bag, some day your lack of morals will come back to bite you.

Please dont associate those who carry side arms with those who steal your pots. It is insulting.

Maybe they open carry so no one messes with their pots!

You misunderstand my observation, I feel it is a poor state of affairs that we have to be armed to go crabbing I leave my weapons at home when I’m out on the boat. Sometimes when we are camping way up in the wilderness the shot guns in the trailer. Dropping crab pots and we have to guard them.......that is just unacceptable. I have no future intentions on being part of the fishery, not because I’m scared, once more I find it to be a poor representation of some in our community, total lack of personal integrity and honor.

Agreed that it is unfortunate that one must feel a way and arm themselves to go crabbing. I for one arm myself not because of people but have had seals come an uncomfortable close and attempt to board my boat after a fish just caught. Have never had to fire it at one but have come close.
