Due to schedules I dont get to take daughter #2 out very often. Told her last week we could go today if I got off early.
Forecast was a little foreboding with waves 2 to 4 ft and rain, but we decided to give it a shot.
The marine forecasts are usually pretty accurate but not today.
We put in at everett at 3.30 and headed for the mukilteo line. Waves were barely a foot and we averaged 21 mph.
Lines in the water not too far beyond the ferry line and we trolled south in about 400 ft of water, I had downrigger to 60'.
We were seeing fish jump pretty much all over, had one on pretty quick but lost at the net. As trolling can get boring I switched over to jigging gear but despite the sonar being lit up we could not tempt them after about an hour we went back to trolling, still heading south we were still a ways from the shipwreck when we got our first fish at 35 ft.
As we netted and bled the fish we had turned around in the current pointing back to the ferry terminal so we just trolled back that way. By now fish were jumping everywhere.
Not even ten minutes go by and we have another fish on, as soon as my daughter put us in neutral the other rod started bouncing so she grabbed that one while I landed mine. Next we netted hers and it was much bigger than our first two.
Lines back in and within minutes she had her second, got it to the boat only to see it had a wound near the tail, seal was my guess so we let it go.
Within minutes she had another on and it was a keeper. That was it, our first double limit this year.
As I cleaned the fish the wind died and it was glassy calm, with a misty rain settling in. By the time we headed back to the ramp visability was down to a few hundred yards.
We made good time getting to the ramp and by the time we docked the rain was heavier and the wind was picking up.
Trailer loaded and headed home by 6.30.
