7/15/2019 9:08:27 PMKodacacher, what was the size of your crabs? I have been crabbing just a little South of that location past 10 years. I’m the last 3 years, it’s been lousy. 4.5” majority crabs. 90% females. Any keeper would be just exactly 6.25” Thanks for sharing your report.

7/15/2019 11:27:35 PM+1, I was out Saturday and we dropped 6 pots starting in the carkeek area and going up to just south of Richmond Beach Saltwater Park and the oil tanks. Caught 45 crab in the 6 pots on a 5 hour soak, of those 45 there were only two red rock (!) and the rest were dungeness with 9 keepers. I would guess we only caught maybe 12-15 males total, definitely more females than males in the pots. Also had to toss back a legal sized male who looked freshly molted/a bit soft.

7/21/2019 11:43:52 AMJust a heads up. Your only allowed 4 pots when fishing from boat no matter how many ppl you have on board. Dumb rule but it is the rule. Call yourself lucky you weren approached by game warden

I think that's only for shrimp:
Puget Sound waters include Marine Area 4 east of the Bonilla-Tatoosh line, and marine areas 5-13.
Shrimp: Two pots per person, and no more than 4 shrimp pots may be onboard or fished by any one boat at a time.
Crab: Two units of crab gear per person, and no limit on the number of units of crab gear per boat.

7/22/2019 8:18:31 PM+1, I am certain that it is two pieces of year per person because I spoke to the fish cops to make sure I am on the right side of the law.
Where I do sorry is coming back to the dock. I often set out on my own and pick up my wife and kids from the beach on my way north, then we fish and crab together and they don't have to be with me for a dawn troll or whatever. I generally drop them back at the beach on my way back to shilshole, and I make sure they take their limits with them. Hasn't been a problem yet, but I wonder what the fish cops would say to me setting out of returning with 1 person and four pots... I figure it's like taking two rods where it is no problem unless they see you using both at once, but I do sorry about it a bit.

hello all of your reports have been helpful. i live on the tacoma side and all crabbing has been closed this year and last. looking for suggestions as to where to go. keeping in mind I don't have a boat so need pier, dock or shore access. anyone notice any? thank you in advance.

7/16/2019 9:27:45 AMHi Quad, This was my first time in this area for several years. I usually crab in Brown's Bay but it was pretty bad last year. We were definitely sorting through them and moved the pots around a bit. Keepers were about half exactly 6.25 and half bigger, but none even close to 7. We were fishing 4 pots over 4 hours at various depth from 40 to 80 feet Like Boeing said, very few red rock and only one of any size. I'd say no more than half of the dungeness were females. We did have a fair number of males in the 5.5 to 6 range, but mostly smaller. Seems like we did better in deeper water, but that may have been the tide change as we moved deeper as the day went a long.
