I caught one! I caught one! First Kokanee in way too long. We actually fished Wednesday thru Friday out of Keller Ferry and beach camped, it was great. Would like to give the trip a 4 because we had such a good time but by definition it is a 3. We never really had a hot spell, just caught fish here and there and on this and that. I suppose a pink geisha hoochie behind a pink Arrow Fast flasher did the best but as usual my Orange Kekeda accounted for several fish and my Pink Shrimp fly from Capt Dave produced some nice fish also. We caught fish above the ferry and below the ferry, most of the strikes were at 40 ft in 70 to 120 FOW but there wasn't a lot of consistency. We marked fish almost everywhere but didn't seem to have the getting them to bite dialed in as well as we would have liked. The beach camping was great and I slept on the boat and that worked way better than I would have expected, liking the new boat really well. Target trolling speed was 1.7 using dodgers, maybe should have taken them off and went up to 2.8 or so. So many possibilities and things to try. Stay after them, be safe and enjoy.

Most of my boat camping has been from a canoe down in Utah on the Green and the San Juan, folding out the seats on the new Sea Runner was pretty deluxe.

Mark: I have a 5 inch thick one person mattress that folds into three sections that I sleep on in my 16.5 foot Lund when I fish fall kings on the Columbia. That way I can be sure to get the spot I want to fish. It works great. Thanks for the report. I hope to head your way in Nov/Dec time frame if all works out ok. Denny

Now that is one step further along than I had thought of, drop the hook right where you're fishing. Shoot you could even leave lines out, maybe if the rule allow. The side seats on the Red Runner make a bed over 6 feet and I put a backpack mattress over that, it was great. I could cook on the live well cover, you got me going on something here.

Glad you're enjoying your new boat so much and are doing so well at catching fish over there. We have been limiting out the last three times we've fished Rife for landlocked cohos that are averaging 15-16 inches, but they are a thinner looking fish than those Kokanee you're catching at Roosevelt. I am taking the wife out with me to Rife tomorrow. She doesn't fish tho. She just enjoys the boat ride. We'll have a picnic lunch on the boat. I hope they allow fall king fishing here on the Columbia this year. If they don't I will just continue fishing the local lakes near me. That's what I did last year when they closed down the river where I like to fish on Sept. 2nd. Anyway, keep enjoying your new boat, stay safe, tight lines always. Denny

We didn't get any giants but the ones we got are tasting pretty good.

Good news! We’ve had luck in that area also. Trolling lures with the bigger 5.5 dodgers seemed to work better than the smaller ones. Speeds of 1.4-1.6 mph from 40-60’ OTW. HOpe to see you out there some time.

Thanks Froggie, I didn't try bigger dodgers maybe will next time. We never limited out on any day so I need to make some improvements somewhere. Just ordered some of those Old Goat spinners. Given the number of fish that we marked there has to be some way to improve my strike ratio. Always trying to get better is part of the fun.
