After seeing several good reports from Hobie angler Josh Hoines i decided to drive to lake Samish for my first time to try to improve on my Kokanee fishing skills and hopefully get into some fish. I have only gone Kokanee fishing by myself a few times and have never found my groove. Being a new paddle kayak fisherman with limited space for gear, there are some obstacles to fishing 2 poles so i'm always trying to learn and try new things in order to hone in my skills. I hit the water accompanied by a few motor boats and the water was glass. Thinking that the fish would be deep in schools toward the middle of the lake i had rigged 2 poles with dipsy divers to see if they would be effective. I ended up wasting a couple hours struggling with all the drag on my boat and pole from the divers and did not get a single strike. Frustrated and contemplating leaving i switched my setup to one pole topline and the second lead core and got a few hook ups on the topline setup but lost them at the boat. I tried a couple different dodger lure combos and found ones the fish seemed to be interested in because all of a sudden it was on! The dodger and spinner combos in the picture with 12in leaders hooks tipped with pink dyed corn soaked with tuna oil. Its rewarding being stubborn and sticking with it when things are looking grim and turning things around to pull thru with a successful, fun and educational fishing outing as i am always to learn the ways of the fish.

Awesome! Congrats on the fish and for being more stubborn than they were. Kokanee are like that sometimes, you have to tinker a bit before you find what works for you.
