Fished Newman all morning and afternoon before that front moved in. I’m new to area so learning lake still. Lots of smaller bass on plastics, 34 inch tiger on jointed lure and my personal best crappie! 16 inch slab on red/yellow 2 inch curly tail grub w 1/16 oz jig head. Hope to find large schools of crappie this summer post spawn to load freezer. Overall a Great day of fishing!

Nice slab! Haven't fished Newman for quite a while, but have hauled some nice slabs out of there and tiger's on crappie gear in the past. ;-)

Thanks HF! I rented a house on Newman lake so been spending quite a bit of time looking at the Humminbird trying to learn lake bottom. I’m really surprised l’m the first and only Newman report since last summer timeframe. Hope I get the ball rolling and new reports start popping up soon...good luck out there!

Thanks man!! Yeah 16 exactly. Thot I was snagged on bottom at first with the ultra light rod and then saw a speckled pie plate sized crappie!

That's a great looking crappie. I haven't fished Newman for a couple of years but I used to live near it and fished it a lot back then. The hottest crappie action I used to see out there was typically in August. Find a weed patch and toss your jigs in and around it and you can have a ton of fun out there. As Hewesfisher said, you can many times hook into a musky when you're doodling for crappies. Now that's a great time.

I've hooked, and caught, at least 3 tigers at Newman and 3 or 4 at Silver Lake while crappie/bluegill/perch fishing. Every one amazed me as I use 6lb mono and not one of them cut the line. ;-)
