Decided to try Long early on Memorial Day before the crowds. Launched out of 9 mile and headed to the same places I tried on last Thursday; had similar results. Caught 11 nice 11-13 inch crappies, 10 smallies and 1 nice toothy critter. Everything was caught on 1/32 oz. crappie jigs including the pike. Docks and timber were the best areas again. The increased flow coming out of Coeur D' Alene dropped the water temp 3 degrees over the weekend. From 60 to 57.

While fishing a brush pile I looked over and saw a pike; hey I wonder if he will bite this crappie jig, it did. Luckily my ultra lite 5' rod was spooled with heavier than normal braid that I re-purposed from another reel. I had tied the jig direct to the braid, no leader, and some how I didn't get bit off. I had to chase him with my trolling motor as the drag squealed and he ripped through a bunch of emerging dollar pads. Finally chased him down and netted him; weighed 8 lbs. 26 inches long. Looks bigger in the picture because i suck at taking selfies.

That's one heck of a trophy for an ultra light! Well done. Thanks for the report. Andy

Selfies?? A guy who catches as many fish as you do should never fish alone. Unless he wants to that is. :)

My buddy bailed out on me late Sunday so I went out solo. Always nice to go with a buddy but going alone will never stop me. It was nice to catch a toothy critter; can't let you and Packernut be the only ones catching them.
