Packed my son and daughter and drove to Martha lake, just out side of the town of George. Fished it as a kid and didn't remember it being that small. No matter. Wanted to keep up a tradition. Arrived Saturday, sunny warm started fishing around 8am. Too nice of a day. Used worms, spinners, eggs and powerbait with no luck. The weather started to change and so did the fishing. Tied the kids a 24 in leader and used orange and red powerbait and that did the trick. My 6 year old son using a 4'6" ugly stick caught his first fish of the year, in a matter of moments. 14" not bad. My daughter then caught her first a few minutes later. Another around 14". We caught 3 more around 12" before the rain chased us in. Got up Sunday around 6am , kids with their oatmeal on the shore fishing. We caught around 10 fish in the 12 to 14 inch range. We did end up catching 2 around 18". We let the big ones go and kept the smaller ( if you want to call 12" small !) Ones to eat. Packed up and headed for!
home around 12pm. Wasn't the greatest trip, but the kids learned to be patient, have fun , and to conserve. Being a real sportsman is catching the big fish and have the sense to get a picture of it and let it go. Maybe a kid their age will catch that fish and it be their biggest thrill. Not a bad set of lakes, worth the drive. Kids had a blast. Take a kid fishing. The memories will last you and them a lifetime
