Terry and I had the opportunity to take our out of state grandson fishing this afternoon. The pressure was on as the last couple of years when he was visiting we had some great walleye catches. We stopped at Dairy Queen on the way to Billy Clapp to ensure at least his stomach had a successful outing.
I fortunately met a friend at the launch who had been fishing all morning and had the fish dialed in. He gave us some good intel. We headed toward the island and put some Rapalas on the down riggers and Flickershads on the planer boards. A nice fat 16” trout quickly hit on the DR at 15’ and Sean did a good job bringing it in despite it wrapping around another line. Unfortunately we lost our sunshine after an hour but the fish seemed to like the cloudy windy weather better. Sean ended up with a dozen C&R fish in less than 3 hours. We had a nice Bald Eagle close up view in addition. Black and Silver jointed Rapalas between 15-24’ did the greatest damage.
It was a great afternoon on the water with our grandson and hope for more in the future.
