I had the unique pleasure and opportunity to fish with my business partners, Rob Holman and Aaron Borg, and also Russ Elgin, owner and creator of the God’s Tooth lure which so many anglers are discovering and catching a lot of fish on. Our target was kokanee on Lake Stevens.

We met promptly at a lazy 7am Sunday morning. Sun was already up and my first comment was “We’ve already missed the morning bite!” That’s OK, the plan was for a relaxing morning of fishing prior to going to the Skip Rock Distillery in Snohomish to set up for our NWFR TV Viewers Party to celebrate the debut of NWFR TV on FOX 13 (Sundays at 5pm on channel 13).

Now, my idea of relaxing turned out to be running eight rods between the four anglers. We started deploying the rods as follows: two leaded line rods (running two colors and three colors), two downrigger rods (running 15-25 feet deep), two surface rods running with no weight back 100 feet, and two planer board rods, running 5-10 feet deep.

It took a while to get all the rods out, what with those pesky kokanee biting from time to time. Eventually we had all rods running and began working on filling our bucket. It wasn’t red hot for us, but steady enough to keep things interesting. We started out trolling slow, 0.9 to 1.2, and this caught us several fish. Later in the morning when things slowed down we bumped up the speed which gave us a quick triple and several more lost fish.

We ran (no surprise) half the rods with God’s Tooth lures and the rest with various other kokanee gear. The God’s Tooth (again no surprise) out-fished the other gear. They are just really nice lures. Russ has added some pretty cool colors and we also got a sneak preview of some colors to come.

We ended the morning at 11am with 8 nice silver kokanee all in the 11-12” range. We lost about the same amount of fish. Loaded the boat, rushed home, cleaned fish, loaded the truck with party stuff, drove back to Snohomish for a wonderful party with a lot of great NWFR members.

What a day!

Sounds like you had a great time Mike. Guess I need to get some of those God's Tooth spoons to give a whirl here in Eastern Washington.
