Hello NWFR,
Was on the water last Wednesday and went out on a Guided fishing adventure. Of course we were targeting the wonderful Springer Chinooks. We met our guide and his boat ready to go at around 645am at the Scappoose Marina. It was nice not having to deal with the already long line up at the boat ramp! Additionally his boat was under cover and nice and dry! It was a short 15 min boat ride to the fishing grounds with about 50 other boats already working it. My son, one of my good family friends and his son were on board as well. The boat was a like new a 21’ Woodridge open with seating for four.
We began trolling around 2.5mph and had our first fish on at around 7:45am in about 30 feet of water . Of note the youngest in our group was new to Salmon fishing and appropriately he caught what would be both the first fish and biggest fish of the day. Not a bad looking say about 15lb hatchery springer! Next hook up was around 8:30am with my son who happened to be the second youngest in the group with a nice 12lb fish. At this point our guide was pretty pumped - see picture. Then at about 9:30 am my friend who was the third oldest hooked a real nice 10lb fish as well. My fish did not come after many strikes until 3pm and was maybe 10-12lbs. That’s me with the thumbs up and the oldest in the group. All fish were in about 20-30 feet of water. The fish were cold still and fought slow but put up a great fight.
Can’t say enough good about our guide, this guy knew the water was very patient with us. Thanks for providing us a great day of fishing and memories. We ate like kings the next night with all that salmon !
