I was able to purchase a new boat (to me) this past weekend, and I got it into Lake WA. for a shakedown and little bit of fishing.
Wound up with a 2016 Lund Fury 1600. 16’ side console, 40 HP Suzuki. Anyway, love the boat. It feels great. 2016, and it only has been run for 15 hours of use time.

The fishing:
Launched with my co-fisher, ‘Motoboat’. AKA: Wayne. @ 9:30 via Magnusson. We ran up to Mcalleer (sp?) creek, and dropped down that particular hootchie that ‘Sharphooks’ likes, #344? The correct one anyway.. no love up there. Ran over to Moss bay. No luvs there either. All the way down to

South tip Mercer Island.

Unfortunately 1st time dusting off the gear in awhile. One of my DR’s had been canabolized of braid, so it was one rod on one DR, and partner was long lining. I switched out to a Chartreuse dodger and a green hootchie with the plastic lip for increased wiggle. Picked up a 14” Cuttie South tip of island at 46’ on the braid/wire, 80’ of water. The fish was the fattest 14” Cutt I’ve seen in awhile. Back to the lake he went.
We did not have any other bumps all day.

Got a call from my wife. Had to pull out hurriedly. Our aging yellow lab had a medical emergency, and was in the the dog ER. Very sad day. I had to run back to the ER, and we made the call to put the dog down. He has previous breathing issues, and now for the 3rd-4th time, he had an intestinal blockage, and was not able to do surgery.

Give your pets a squeeze people. These are the ones who never judge you. Always happy to see you. Their ime is short.

Quadfather, so sorry to hear about your dog. Our beagle is old and slowing down and I know the day isn't far off. I'm already dreading it.

I’m sorry to hear about your dog. Always sad to lose a pet. Hopefully you can get in some fishing therapy soon.

Quadfather you touched a soft spot in me too. Our pets give us so much unconditional love. Sure miss our golden lab. Enjoy the new boat Alan

Sorry to hear about your lab. Can’t imagine what it’s like to go through that, especially as I just got my first pup 1.5 years ago.

Congrats on the new boat! I got a new to me 14’ boat last year and have been wanting to take it out on lake Washington but haven’t had the time or confidence to do it yet. Mostly been on Sammamish with it so far which has been amazing.

So sorry for your loss, for these animals are our kids. The wife and I have 2 cats and they love and depend on us. We put another cat down 2 years ago and it wasn't fun at all, so I feel your pain. Just think about the good times you had with with your dog . Good luck and nice boat.

What can I say that hasn't already been said. Good fishing with the new boat, good memories of your lost friend. God Bless!

To Quadfather:
I'm so very sorry to hear about the passing of your dog - - - man's best friend. Throughout the course of having dogs myself over many years, I know what you had to do is very, very difficult. I'm sure your beloved dog will live on in your memories as do each of mine.

As for fishing Lake Washington with the #344, I think its somewhat too early for the area that you fished. The McAlleer Creek area and from Champaign Point down to Juanitta Bay is one of my favorites for really nice size Cuthroat. My last very recent trip to the area you fished drew a royal skunk. It should fish much better once we get into May and June given warmer water temperature.

Yep - that's the "catch 22". By the time the water is warm enough for the cutts to start playing nicely, the weather is warm enough that the wake surfing boats start showing up. At least that's what it's like on Sammamish. It really takes the fun out of fishing when some guy's wake is splashing in through the scuppers on the transom and rocking the boat all over the place.

The best and worst day in one, sorry to here. The boat looks good on the water.

Quad, I said goodbye to my wonderful yellow lab in 2014 (posted in the forum). Your picture above really pulled at my heart as that's the exact pose my Amber and I shared her last moments. I could not be there when they put her down, I'd done that before and vowed I'd never do it again.

Some say get another right away, but we waited a few months before bringing another yellow lab puppy home. She's 5 now and a still a goofy care free puppy. I still miss Amber and probably always will. :-(

QF -- I'm currently raising a five month old black lab, and if how I already feel about this silly little girl is any indication, you must be hurting. I have a cat that's been my best buddy for 15 years, and she's clearly on the decline, so like Mike Carey, I'm starting to dread the inevitable. That's the most significant price we pay for all the years of laughter and companionship -- having to say goodbye.

Thanks for the report. I've been chasing cutts on Sammamish, and with the exception of one 8-hookup day, it's been really slow. The bright green stuff seems to be the most consistent, if you can call one fish per day a pattern.

I bought a new boat a year ago -- 18' Weldcraft Angler Open Tiller -- so I appreciate how much fun it is to spend time figuring stuff out. I'm still not where I want to be when it comes to approaching the docks with the jet pump in a crosswind. But I'll get there.
