After an unsuccessful outing to the north half of Lake Washington last week in the general area of Juanitta Bay with no fish encounters whatsoever, my fishing partner and I wanted to see if we could do any better today on Lake Sammamish. We entered the lake at 9:30 AM with almost perfect weather conditions. We fished the lake for 4 1/2 hours several miles to the north of the weather buoy on the west and east sides of the lake and came up with disappointing results while using what in the past has worked very well for us - - - the God's Tooth lure with a 4 1'2 inch sling blade. We caught and released 1 Cutthroat of about 14 inches and lost 2 other fish. During our time on the lake, we saw 4 other boats which appeared to be fishing for Cutthroat, however, we were unable to talk to any of them. The surface water temperature much similar to that of Lake Washington registered an average of 46 degrees. That's still on the cold side to expect decent fishing so perhaps that was our problem. We have found with a few exceptions that the fishing on the lake does not perk well until the surface water gets into the lower 50's. With much warmer days ahead than we had in February, its our guess that should happen in the early to mid April period. In any event, we got plenty of good fresh air while on the lake today which made our outing worthwhile. The highlight of our day at one point was watching a bald eagle soaring high above us as we fished.
