With everything that's going on in my life this month I needed a mental health day, and what better way is there to get your head clear than to go fishing? I called my buddy Mark and off we went to Lake Roosevelt.

We launched out of Fort Spokane about 8:30 and headed up the arm. A little bit past the Porcupine launch we started jigging 5/8 oz red heads with purple crawdads in some deep holes, 80-90 fow. We had to hunt around for a while but then my buddy Mark got a bite and boated the first burbot. The bite picked up pretty quickly after that, and in no time we both had a limit. What a great day, the temps were mild, the wind was nonexistent, and the water surface was glass.

After two years of not getting to fish for burbot this was a trip to remember. I can't wait to go back.

Thanks for the good report, I want to be getting after some of those Burbot too. We saw you go by and then took out just after you.
Next time out I will be looking for some of those "holes".

I have heard they are good eaters. How is best in your view?

I like them baked, broiled or battered and fried. Personally as fish we can harvest in Washington, my top five would be 1. Sturgeon 2. Burbot 3. Walleye 4. Steelhead 5. Salmon.

Rainbow Trout would be way down the list like #15
