I had the pleasure this morning of taking out a couple great young men who had never fished on Roosevelt before and as usual she came through for us! We put in at the Fort Spokane launch around 8:00 and thought for a time that we were gonna have one of those days where you don't spend much time catching. Finally around 10:00 we found ourselves over at Hawk Creek area and for the next three hours we had regular action including a double. That was when the highlite for the one youngster was reeling his half of the double and seeing that it was noticeably larger than his dads! Good times! We ended up with 10 caught, 8 kept, and a handful of "professional" releases. Orange/Black was the choice for the day with half on our Kekeda flies and the others on my Old Goat lure. Couldn't buy a strike on anything else. Also found that I needed to go a bit slower than usual- about 2mph seemed to be the ticket. Nothing better than putting kids into fish!

Hi there, I'm wondering how I get my hands on these oldgoatlure's?
Thanks

Nothing better than getting kids out fishing, thanks for being a great mentor! The orange/black and perch Kekeda's have been the most productive flies for us so far this year and have taken several at or over 3lbs. Am anxious for water temps to drop a bit more so I can start dragging hard baits too!

We tried the perch one for a bit but I was getting so many strikes on the orange & black that I decided to double up on those. As far as being a mentor goes, I had the challenge of explaining to a 10 year old why we had to release the (by far) nicest fish of the day. I showed them the fin and then told them the difference between that one and the others. I'm not sure they fully understood except that I was releasing his biggest ever fish. Life lesson :)
