Had exactly four hours tonight. I'm going to try and hit a different lake after work every night this week. Just so I have a better idea of what to target on the weekends once we turn the clocks back.

Tonight was a midrange lake, no real deep spots and not predominantly shallow. I started by zig zagging from 2-10 feet and actually had my first two strikes on a FROG in about a foot of water! Clean misses with no follow ups. Then, on the outside edge of some lily pads, in about five feet of water, I had the first hookup on a Senko. Small fish but life!

My second fish came in about five feet also, just inside a pad line on a jig. The largest fish, 3.1, was also in five feet but on the end of a dock the wind was blowing on, he also ate the jig.

I found water temps between 53 and 55 degrees and stained water from the recent rain. Slow presentation was best and a chatterbait, small buzzbait, swimbait and worm all blanked.

I was encouraged to see a few fish spook in the shallows, 1-3 feet. The frog blowups, although small sub 2lb fish, were also encouraging! Tomorrow's lake will be a little deeper overall and much cleaner water. Wednesday's lake will be shallow, stained and grassy just for comparison.

Don't expect names on any of them, just take what info you can and apply it in your adventures ;)

Interesting. I left my frogs at home last week, but I kind of wish I hadn't. I messed around with salmon today, but I'm going after bass again tomorrow. Good to know they're still biting.

WHAAT?? You dare try and injure a poor defenseless SALMON?!! Whale killer! LOL Don't you have any idea what kind of damage one man with a fishing pole can do to an entire salmon population?? Go get a commercial boat with massive nets to ensure those poor endangered salmon survive for the future, c'mon now...you need to be more responsible than that lmao. Just for the record...there is nothing "secret" about these lakes, all public access. I'm not expecting much tonight as it's not a lake known for 'big' fish but it will give me an idea of activity level in clear water lakes with say a 70' max depth. Interestingly enough, on this particular lake, the big fish came from the warmer water, while the frog hits came from the colder water but were a bit shallower. I am still optimistic about November but the water temp here dropped 4-6 degrees after just one storm. :O

Thank you! I have all but given up on salmon in this State. This place slips more and more off it's rocker every year it seems. Keep punishing the stick and string guys but turn a blind eye when it comes to commercial and tribes...meh. They shut the river I fish down due to "low egg harvest at the hatchery" and we missed the best part of the season...still tribal nets at the mouth five days a week the entire time though... I'm about to give my salmon gear away.

Was the wind direction parallel or towards the shores where you caught fish or did it make any difference?

Frog bites, Senko and spooked fish were on the slack water side. The big fish and the other that hit the moving bait were on the wind blown side.

Don’t worry, I only caught a huge boot of a chum and he went back of course. Cool looking fish though. Might be the biggest fish I’ve ever caught even.

That's cool! Should of had your attorney take a picture.....since you have to salmon fish with them now to ensure you're following all the regulations LOL

I hear ya on the salmon for sure. Its brutal for the sport fisherman. Might have to switch back to bass this weekend. But I got a few more days in the week, I know I'll change my mind another 5 or 6 times haha

The regs are definitely a bit confusing. Right now I'm looking to the future trying to figure out the steelhead regs on the area rivers. Looking at the regs, I don't see any mention of steelhead under any of the rivers. I know people fish for them around here, and I want to give it a try and still be compliant, but it's definitely a bit unclear.
