Took my 8 year old boy on his first salmon excursion. Called the school and told them I was taking him fishing. We put lines in the water just before 0700 right by the shipwreck at about 400 ft. My pole had a green led lighted flasher and a purple haze needlefish with a strip of herring at 65 feet. My son had a purple haze flasher with a purple haze needlefish with a strip of herring as well and he was deeper at 115 feet. Trolled at 3.5 to 3.7 mph and after about 30 minutes got one on my 65ft line. Started reeling him while bringing up the downrigger ball, and noticed my son's line at 115 ft was now doing the jerky thing. My son netted my 8 lb'er and then grabbed his pole and started wrestling with his first big fish ever. I got my coho free of the net just in time to net my son's very first salmon. It was 12 lbs!!! The kid had a huge smile on his face, I let out a whoooohoooo that probably scared anyone close by and we high fived. We continued to go up and down the ship wreck right in front of all those buildings close together that look like townhomes or condos. That seemed to be where we got hit every time. Got 2 more 7 lb'ers to limit and also released a couple shakers. Definitely got hit at both depths. Watch out for the Gilnetters in the early morning. It was dark heading out and I could barely see them. I came within about 100 yards of them when they started flashing me with their bright spotlight. Got my son back to school around noon to tell his teacher and friends a really cool fishing story.
