What do you tell your friend if you're fishing and they get sick and throw up? "Suck it up, there's fish to be caught!" What do you tell your dog? "Darn Rudy, let's get you in to shore right away."
As you can probably surmise, Day 2 of JoAnn and my long coho weekend was cut short by a seasick dog. But not before we managed to catch one 5 pound hatchery coho, south of the oil docks. We caught the fish with 70 feet on the downrigger cable, an 11" green/chrome flasher and a medium sized purple hoochie with a strip of shad.
HT was at 4:41, we started fishing at 4:37 heading due south from Edwards Point in 200-300 feet of water. Trolling along at 3.5mph. By the time we got to the channel marker the swells had grown and were white capping. I decided to turn us around and that was it for poor Rudy. Upchucked all over his blanket (better than my boat, thank you Rudy). So we eased our way back into the wind and the marina at around 6pm. Better to come in early and with energy for the next day than beat up and discouraged and struggling to get up.
Tomorrow is the coho derby, good luck to those of you that are entered. We'll be fishing but not in the derby. Far away from the crowds, hopefully.
