This time I did not sleep through the alarm! Got to the launch about 5:30, and had my lines in the water by 6am. Started my morning thinking I would be fishing deep, 50 - 70 feet like I was 2 weeks prior. Dropped both lines down to 50 and 55 feet and began my troll. Just as I started I ran into Isaiah, he had got a slightly earlier start than I did and mentioned he was only down about 35 feet. As I was trolling, I did notice that the fish were hanging out in 2 distinct zones, at about 35 feet, and about 60 feet. I re-adjust my lines, brought 1 up to 35, and the other down to 60. Pretty quickly I started hitting fish at 35, and was also getting fish at 60. Lesson for today was trust your sonar. If you see fish, fish to them, and if you see fish at a certain depth, but they aren't biting, move the line up or down, or to where they are actually biting. The fish stopped biting at 60 feet pretty quickly, but I chased those marks a little too long knowing that fish were biting at 35.
I ran on 1 line a prototype Elgin Fishing dodger followed by 12 inches of leader to a 50/50 Elgin Fishing God's Tooth Spoon rigged for Kokanee. On the other line I started with a yellow/chartreuse Elgin Fishing God's Tooth Spoon Kokanee, and later switched that out to a 50/50 blue, behind a Mack's double D dodger. Speed to get bites was right around 1mph, give or take, but closer to 1mph was best.
The fish in Stevens are on the bite, not 2 hour limits, but good steady fishing. They are also still in great shape. A couple of the males are just starting to get the elongated nose, but you really have to look to notice. Otherwise they are still bright and the meat still extremely firm.
Always a blast to take the Hobie out and come back to the dock with limits. Just about every time when someone sees the Hobie at the dock I have to give them a mini tour of it. It's such a fun fishing platform. Can't wait for the Coho to get within range of it out on the Sound.
Video shows the action from that day.
