Had a good but not great day fishing pike again on Cda lake. I took my brother again the rookie pike fisherman. Unfortunately for him all he got again on this trip was experience. He claims he had fun and is not overly discouraged yet, but he's two trips in and has yet to land his first Cda pike. I only caught and released 3 pike, one LMB, and one large hard fighting squaw fish/eagle food on the day, but the pike and the bass were nice along with the big squaw fish. We also missed 6 or 8 strikes. Cda is still giving up nice fish. These were 7 1/2, 8 1/2 and one 10 pounder. The LMB went 3 lbs and the squaw was 5lb 5oz. Man that thing put up a hell of a fight. I really though I had a nice pike on the line. It hit a 1 1/2 oz spinner bait in 13 feet of water. I thanked him for a good fight, then released him, with a strong migraine that is. He wasn't exactly happy with my catch and release tactics. My guess is he met up with one of the bald eagles that hang out in that particular area on a regular basis.
All fish came from 10-15 feet of water in deep weeds, and all came on spinner baits. Water temps were again 70-74 degrees. I'm now looking forward to seeing them drop into the low 60's and high 50's so those bigger girls will be willing to play.
Good luck out there!
