Fished Lake Ki for Memorial Day. Wanted to put a few fish in the freezer, but also get on and off the lake quickly. Ki seemed like the right place. I am surprised at how many boats and kayaks there wound up being on the lake today.

Started my troll with an Elgin Fishing God's Tooth spoon in 50/50 brass on 1 line, and the other line running a Elgin Fishing 4 inch prototype dodger, then 16 inch leader to an Elgin Fishing God's Tooth Spoon in a frog patter. Immediately the 50/50 brass got bit at 25 feet, but the fish came off. A short time later, a good takedown on the 50/50 brass at 25 feet. Soon as I popped the line from the clip, I got that unmistakable feel of a decent fish "digging" instead of thrashing around. Fish wound up right at 17 inches, and chunk. Very healthy looking fish for Lake Ki.

After playing around with different patterns on the other line (frog, 50/50 blue, silver shiner, brown trout) I put on an orange top God's Tooth Spoon, and fairly quickly landed 2 more rainbows. The 50/50 line I decided to change out to a Reli Lures Diamond Flash spinner, tipped with a gulp worm, trailing a Elgin Fishing prototype 5.5 inch dodger. It immediately got 2 fish to finish out my 5 today, and get me off the lake in short order. I normally would stick around, not ever use bait, and go for 4-5 hours to see how many I could catch. With a looming honey-do list, and being grateful that my wife lets me fish as much as she does, a fast limit was a wise choice :)

Video shows the quick fish this morning, and a little of my set up. On one side I ran the God's Tooth a little differently from how I normally do it. The spoons are just so versatile.

Wound up being a good thing I chose to get out fast as on my way home my wife called to let me know she had a little accident :)

Yea its surprising given how hard the lake gets fished, bit they are there. Can always tell on the downrigger when the rod does a slow, deep bend instead of the tap tap tap you see from the typical fiah.

Josh, how much does your rig weigh and how do you get it from your rig to the lake?

It weighs just under 150 pounds. The weight capacity is 600lbs. I trailer it, and typically launch from the trailer. Some lakes, and even sometimes the river, i use a cart to launch. I load the Hobie onto the cart from the trailer, wheel it down to the water and put in. The cart easily fits on the back of the kayak. I prefer launching and loading from the trailer as its a lot easier, but the cart gives me more flexibility to lauch in either real tigh places, or in those places where there is no real ramp, or just is extremely difficult. Was nice for the Lake Stevens derby this year having the cart. I launched from the trailer and got a parking spot. Took the cart out on the water with me, and when I saw how busy it was at the launch when i was ready to pull out, I just pedaled right up to shore, put the Hobie on the cart, wheeled it ti my vehicle and loaded back on the trailer. I was able to get out in minutes rather than wait 30, plus I didn't lose my parking spot! :)
