My son helped get the boat ready for fishing Clear Lake in Pierce County on Mother’s day. I made sure the motors/batteries were working Saturday night but when I went to get the riptide teranova ready for trolling the batteries were almost dead. I don’t know why.
Well Bo said we could still fish and I said I did have eggs. Then I remembered the Yamaha kicker which I hadn’t used since getting the electric. I haven’t been out since late Oct last year. He got it ready and pulled twice and it fired right up. Hardly ever does that for me. So we started fishing/trolling. I didn't target kokanee as they are nearly extinct in this lake now. The fish finder said there were fish around but we didn’t see many bites.
Bo got the first 3 trout in the boat but mine came off. Then I got fish in the boat and his came off. We started on the south side of the lake but had the best luck on the north side.
It was a warm day with the temperature to be in the mid 80’s. The water was 62. We started about 8:30am and quit just after noon. We left with 8 trout.

If he hadn't have helped me I wouldn't have been able to fish. Priceless Mother's day gift.

My boat came with a 1988 Mariner 75 horse. I got a 2009 50 horse Merc last year for it

Toni, have you heard any explanations for the lack of Kokanee in Clear Lake. That was a fun fishery. I need to check, but think they are still stocking the lake with Kokanee.

They are stocking still. They say the drought. 2 weeks ago I wrote the biologist and asked about there not being any kokanee caught and she said she was going to ask the hatchery what they thought about it.

Thanks Toni. I don't see any reason why the drought would have any affect. It would be nice to find out.

You can thank our fellow angling friends for illegally planting smallmouth bass. Kokanee fry don't have a chance. Similar issue for lake Washington sockeye. Trash fish from out of state love the taste of baby salmon. Clear Lake needs a rehab with rotenone like they do in eastern Washington when the outlaw Johnny Appleseed jerks dump these ditch pickles into our traditional trout and kokanee waters.
