OK, well Long lake turned out to the be the shining star in our list of lakes over the weekend. This lake I had only fished once or twice in the past 15 years, with hardly any success.
We arrived late, like 7:30 PM. We had just a couple hook ups in the main body of the lake. I was trolling a sort of purple salmon plug. Yeah.. a big ol' purple salmon plug with big crazy hooks. Way beyond trout gear. (-:
At the far end of the lake there are some reeds that you can work your way through, and it opens up into another very small circular section of the lake, almost like a second little lake. The fish were all down in that area. It was a freak show. I could not put that plug into the water for more than a 30 second troll, it was just constant fish on! these fish were all 10-12", but also they were the most aggressive fish we caught all weekend. They were WAY more aggressive than the large triploids from Buffalo lake. So we just went round and round in that circular pond section, lighting it up on these fish. No bait used, all plug on the 5 wt. fly rod, sinking line again.
We pulled out about 5 minutes before dark. Brought a limit of fish back to the cabin. Cooked them up in the AM in the cast iron skillet.
Good times.

Before I forget, it was kind of a pricey weekend in that I broke both the fly rods that I brought with me. The Lamiglas 5 wt. had served me well for 20 years. I set the hook on a 12" trout, and it snapped way down by the cork?!
Then... I broke my travel 'Orvis' frequent flyer rod, 6 wt. I am absolutely done with Orvis rods... I have broken this same rod 2 separate times in the past year. It is a beautiful 8 piece travel rod. I am not talking about horsing fish in, and breaking it... I am talking about running your line through the eyelets, and the leader to fly line get a little caught, you pull very slightly, and BAM, broke rod!
