I got to the lake around 11:00 and launched my kayak, trolled a size 8 Olive Willy that I had tied right before I left the house on type III sink tip. I immediately got a hit not more than 2 minutes out from launching and within 15 minutes had two more both to the right of the park dock.
For my second rod I put on a black Wooly Bugger (also size 8) with a gold bead head and a little green flash that I tied up a week or so ago and trolled that on floating line for a while. While I was rigging up that rod I noticed one other kayaker waving at me and pointing and couldn't figure out what he wanted, finally he got me to look at the rod with the Willy on it and it was bent over with a fish on, I was so focused on getting the fly tied on the other rod I didn't notice the fish! Luckily I was able to get it netted. The Olive Willy continued to get occasional hits over the next 45 minutes with a couple fish netted while the Wooly got absolutely nothing. Decided to switch to a full sink for the Wooly and had my first fish on it about 15 minutes later. I have a new fish finder with GPS so was able to see that my trolling speed was between 1.5 and 2.0 MPH, so not a slow drift.
I took a few tours around the lake to check out the other spots and finally settled on up and down the middle a little towards the left side (as you look down the lake from the launch). The bite was pretty constant and the netted tally was rising. A couple times I had hits on the other rod while I was stripping in a fish on the other one so thought I had a good shot at my first ever double. Sure enough, around 2:00 I had solid hits on both rods at the same time. Got the first fish in and then moved over to the other rod and the second fish was actually still on and got it in. Not 30 minutes later I actually landed my second double! Between 2:00 and 5:00 the action was constant with a fish on most passes up and down that part of the lake, sometimes two. By the end of the day I had netted over two dozen fish, evenly split between the sinking tip Willy and the full sink Bugger. I only used those two flies, never tied another on or lost any. The Willy was pretty trashed by the end but still catching fish, caught two on it while waiting for the boat ramp to clear so I could leave!
